h  Future Plans for the Chase Stone Barn Park g

Present Plans:

The stone barn park committee currently plans to do the following with the stone barn and 10 acre property:

-  Develop a park "master plan" for the Chase Stone Barn Park

-  Install gravel driveway and parking lot

-  Secure the stone barn

-  Make necessary repairs on the stone barn and silo

-  Landscaping (stone walking paths around the barn and down to the creek)

-  Landscaping (plant trees, shrubs, flowers, etc)

-  Landscaping (install picnic nooks)

-  Install electric in the barn (for lighting and power) and on the property (for lighting)

-  Build combination shelter/restroom facility with drain field near the stone barn to compliment the barn

-  Provide portable water (in barn and outdoor bathroom facility)

-  Build fieldstone bridge/s over creek

-  Build authentic playground to compliment the stone barn (possibly mini stone silo and mini stone playhouse)

-  Install flooring in the back open part of the barn to compliment the stone barn

-  Install old lantern-style lighting fixtures inside the stone barn

-  Install old lantern-style pole lighting on the property by the parking lot, playground, bathroom, and barn

-  Modify the barn parlor for a rustic agriculture museum to display old farm tractors and machinery

-  Install a display case inside the parlor area to show historic documents and photos of Chase, small farm tools, etc

-  Build a fieldstone wishing well over the existing stone-lined well

-  Build a small Welcome Center so that people will have somewhere to relax when they come all the way to see the stone barn.  This structure will be built to compliment the stone barn.  It could be of log cabin design with stone facing, have a front porch and back patio area, and have a fieldstone fireplace inside.  We can serve refreshments during the season, like ice-cream and soda, and also sell crafts, stone barn photos, etc.  This structure will have heat and air (unlike the stone barn).  All proceeds (if any) will be used toward future development of the park.

-  Try to acquire land surrounding the stone barn property if it ever comes up for sale.  One idea is to build a large gazebo on this property that will be built on a large stone foundation and have fieldstone pillars.  The gazebo can be used for weddings, band concerts, and Santa when he comes to town.

Please note that the above plans are not final and can be changed.

Main Objective for the Park:

The main objective of the stone barn park committee wants to keep the stone barn as authentic as possible to preserve its integrity and historic value.  We do not want to pollute the grounds with anything that does not compliment the stone barn, such as pole buildings, etc.  We want the grounds to be a beautiful, natural setting that all can enjoy and utilize.

When the stone barn renovations are complete, the stone barn can be rented out for the use of parties, receptions, reunions, tractor shows, auctions, etc.  Income generated from the rent of this facility can be used to help pay for future renovation costs, future park development, and maintenance and utility costs.

Special events can be held at the Chase Stone Barn Park including:

-  Our annual town picnic

-  Harvest festival, complete with pumpkin patches, Amish thrashing demonstrations, horse or tractor drawn hay rides, and a corn roast.  Wouldn't a Haunted Barn be really neat?  That would be another way to raise money.

-  Winter events could include Santa coming to town, horse or tractor drawn sleigh rides, and an ice rink.
