Fundraising Goal:  The town needs to raise a total of $430,000 for the stone barn restorations.  If the town can raise $287,000 by June 30, 2012, then the Jeffris Family Foundation of Janesville, WI, will award us $143,000.  If the town fails to raise their portion by this deadline, then the grant will be rescinded.

State Building Fund Grant:  In July of 2009 a $100,000 grant was approved from the State Building Fund.  In order to qualify for the grant, the town first had to raise $300,000 in pledges and donations, which we accomplished by the end of 2010.  The funds will be paid to the town in the form of reimbursements for expenses as they are incurred.

Site and Master Plans for the Park:  Excavation of the driveway and parking lot began in September 2011.  The majority of this work is being donated by local trucking and excavating companies in the area.

Stone Barn Restorations:   Brander Construction Technology of Green Bay is drawing up the specifications and documents for the restoration work to be done for the barn.  Since the barn is on the State and National Register of Historic Places, we have asked that the plans be approved by the Wisconsin Historical Society and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  Restorations will begin once enough funds have been raised.

Archaeology Surveys:  Archaeology surveys began on the stone barn property in November 2009 by Bob Fay, a renown archaeologist from Old Northwest Research in Two Rivers, WI.  Fay walked the plowed field and found many artifacts lying in the soil, including broken pottery and glass, nails, small tools, and other fragments. He began excavating the 1887 house cellar in 2010 and also exposed the foundations of several other buildings that were once part of the large farm.  Fay then did archaeology testing in-and-around the stone barn.  All artifacts are being documented and stored and will be displayed in the future museum.  The archaeology work is now complete, and Fay will put all in findings in a report which is expected to be done in the spring of 2012.  Click HERE for the archaeology story about the house cellar.

Volunteers:  If you would like to donate your services for the stone barn restorations and park development, please contact Gary Van Lannen at (920) 822-8182.  All donated services will count in-kind towards the Jeffris grant and State grant.  Thank You!
